Protran Technology has secured a contract from the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority to provide 100 of its Station Platform Intrusion Warning systems.
Protran’s system, described as “the first of its kind,” can detect intruders or other emergency events and send warnings to an operational control center and to a train before it enters a station, in real time.
According to Protran Technology Vice President Shannon Bailey, “This system was developed in response to the FRA and FTA’s ‘most wanted list’ to minimize the time in which a warning can be sent to trains from an operational control center. Currently this could take greater than 10 minutes or more. In a situation such as a biological, chemical, or intruder attack, immediate response is crucial. The Protran system removes all delays and transmits to any train in real-time.”
