The Oklahoma Department of Transportation, along with the Federal Railroad Administration, has launched the Tulsa-Oklahoma City Passenger Rail Corridor Investment Plan to evaluate passenger rail service linking the two cities.
The Corridor Investment Plan includes an evaluation of service options, investment requirements, and environmental impacts.
Oklahoma City currently is served by Amtrak's Heartland Flyer, linking the state capital with Dallas/Fort Worth. Tulsa, roughly 105 miles northeast of Oklahoma City, is the Sooner State's second-largest city.
Three public scoping meetings will occur in mid-August seeking input on the study, including the the scope of the study and the transportation needs along the route. Oklahoma DOT is asking the public to help identify potential problem areas and possible passenger opportunities.
"This is not just a technical study," David Streb, director of Engineering Oklahoma DOT, told local media. "It is an opportunity, through a broad-based public dialogue, to establish a vision for passenger transportation in this corridor connecting the state's two largest metropolitan areas."
