J.L. Patterson & Associates, Inc. (JLP) said it has been awarded a $6.5 million contract by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA) for finalizing the design of a double track project along Metrolink's Ventura County Line, north of Los Angeles.

The Raymer to Bernson Double Track Project is located on the Metro-owned right-of-way along the Ventura subdivision, part of the Los Angeles-San Diego-San Luis Obispo (LOSSAN) Corridor, now the nation's second-busiest intercity passenger rail route.  Besides Metrolink, Amtrak Pacific Surfliner ply the route north of LA Union Station.

Orange, Calif.-based JLP will design 6.4 miles of second main line track to eliminate the current single- track bottleneck, aimed at improving travel times, operational reliability, and station safety. Among other enhancements being made are the construction of a second platform and pedestrian underpass at the Northridge Station, nine grade crossings to align with current Metrolink design standards, and the replacement of two railroad bridge structures. Once complete, this corridor will feature full double track from Burbank to Chatsworth, Calif.

"We are pleased to work with Los Angeles Metro to help passenger and freight service users of the Ventura Line experience better travel times, reliability and safety." JLP President Jacqueline Patterson said in a statement July 3, 2014.
