Splitting the modal difference, the Board of Directors for Denver's Regional Transportation District (RTD) has approved a light rail transit exentsion along with a "rapid bus" route.
The LRT project, the Southeast Rail Extension in Douglas County, extends the existing Southeast Light Rail Line roughly 2.3 miles to Lone Tree, Colo.; the projected cost is $207 million. Federal funding assistance of $92 million is anticipated, RTD said.
The $75 million bus route along Colorado 119 would link Boulder and Longmont addressing what an RTD study identified as a top transportation priority.
"These two projects are huge from a regional perspective because they promote progress in the northwest and southeast parts of the metro region," RTD Board Chairman Chuck Sisk said in a statement.
