KCSR reorganizes operating department

Kansas City Southern has made organizational changes within the operations department of its U.S. subsidiary, The Kansas City Southern Railway Company (KCSR).

Mike Naatz (pictured) has been promoted from Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer to Senior Vice President Operations Support and CIO. Reporting directly to Naatz are Vice President Network Design Greg Walling, Vice President Mechanical Operations Gary Jarboe, Vice President Information Technology Wayne Godlewski, and Director Process Improvement Matt Bommarito. Naatz reports to KCSR President and CEO David Starling.

Naatz has 20 years of transportation experience. He joined KCSR in 2012 from USF Holland (a YRCW company), where he served as President. Prior to that, he held the position of Chief Customer Officer and Chief Information and Service Officer for YRCW, as well as a variety of other IT and operations leadership positions for YRCW and USF. He holds a master of business administration from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and a bachelor of arts in economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Jeff Songer has been promoted from Vice President and Chief Engineer to Senior Vice President Engineering and Chief Transportation Officer. In addition to his engineering department direct reports, now reporting to Songer are Vice President Transportation and Safety Steve Truitt and Assistant Vice President Network Operations Mike Curry.

Songer joined the company in 2005 and was promoted to Vice President and Chief Engineer in 2012. Prior to joining the company, he spent 12 years in the construction and finance industries. He holds a master of business administration and bachelor of arts in engineering from the University of Kansas.

Steve Truitt’s position has changed from Vice President Safety Training and Standards to Vice President Transportation and Safety. In addition to his safety and training department direct reports, now reporting to Truitt are Assistant Vice Presidents Chad Devenney of the Midwest Division, Rick Pennington of the Southeast Division, and Richard Bartoskewitz of the Southwest Division.

Moving from Truitt’s department to the Administration and Corporate Affairs department are Assistant Vice President and Chief of Police Al Rawls and Public Safety Director Danny Lites, who will again report to Executive Vice President Administration and Corporate Affairs Warren Erdman. Also moving from Truitt’s department is Director Environmental and Hazmat Carl Akins, who now reports to Assistant Vice President Facilities and Heritage Operations Doug Banks.

Truitt has 31 years of railroad experience. He joined KCSR in 2011 and has also held operations positions with CSX and Union Pacific. He holds a bachelor of science in business management from Virginia Tech.
