Six streetcar route options are on the table in San Antonio, Tex., but the city's famed landmark, The Alamo, appears unlikely to be served by any of them.

Though VIA Metropolitan Transit hasn't made any formal decision, and has maintained its route options to date without change, public pressure from various sources appears to be thwarting any attempts to serve the site, according to local media.

VIA's Board of Directors is scheduled to make a final decision next month on a 's Locally Preferred Alternative (LPA) they plan to implement. The board approved conceptual plans for streetcar development in October 2011.

The agency scheduled public hearings for Monday, June 17, 2013 to record input and potential objections to the various routes under consideration.

Besides objecting to service near The Alamo, citizen activists also are protesting plans to route service through HemisFair Park. Last month several City Council representatives urged both the Alamo Street route and the Nueva Street route that crosses Hemisfair's parkland be eliminated from consideration.
