Domestic container volume continued to grow during the second quarter of 2013, up 9% measured against the comparable quarter in 2012, the Intermodal Association of North America (IANA) said Monday, Aug. 5, 2013.
That growth drove the 2.4% rise in overall intermodal growth for the quarter, offset to some degree by a drop in international volume, down 1.3%, and intermodal railer volumes, down 2.5%.
"Domestic container volume was the foundation of intermodal growth in both the second quarter and year to date," said IANA President and CEO Joni Casey. "Despite some segments slowing in [the second quarter], the Market Trends and Statistics data confirm the industry's underlying momentum."
