Mount Vernon, N.Y., and Metro-North Railroad have agreed to repair or replace three rail bridges on the New Haven Line at a cost of $10 million.
Funding will come largely from Metro-North parent Metropolitan Transportation Authority's capital budget, although the latest five-year, $32 billion plan still is not fully funded.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the effort on Monday, Sept. 29, 2014.
The bridges are located on 10th Avenue, Sixth Avenue, and North 14th Avenue, all in Mount Vernon. The bridges originally were placed into service during the 1890s; the 10th Avenue bridge currently is closed to automotive traffic due to safety concerns.
Metro-North has worked on numerous bridges on the New Haven Line during its 30-year existence, a line also used by Amtrak Northeast Corridor trains.
