Amidst Seattle's aggressive expansion of light rail transit and streetcar lines, some have insisted on revitalizing monorail transportation, which appeared in the city during its 1962 World's Fair.

But on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2014, a Seattle Times editorial declared, "Expansion of Seattle's iconic monorail line is an idea whose time has come — and gone."

The newspaper noted monorail supporters were making a "fifth attempt" to advance the mode, seeking to create a new authority for the project.

"Monorail proponents note that Sound Transit and Metro have checkered track records for meeting expansion promises," the newspaper acknowledged. "But both authorities have taken steps to improve their fiscal and system management."

Seattle voters will decide for themselves on Nov. 4.
