Three consortia submitted sealed bids late Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014, to the Californai High-Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA), expressing interest in overseeing construction of the second leg of the state's proposed high speed rail network.
Bidders include: Dragados/Flatiron/Shimmick; Golden State Rail Partnership, which includes OHL USA, Samsung E&C Americas, and Tylin International (Tyli); and Tutor Perini/Zachry/Parsons, which in June 2013 landed the contract for the 28-mile phase 1 portion of the HSR project, running from Fresno north to Madera.
Phase 2 would establish HSR right-of-way from Fresno south Bakersfield, in California's Central Valley. The Surface Transportation Board granted approval to CHSRA to construct the segment last August.
Recent state court rulings have in general brushed back objections to CHSRA's funding plan.
California hopes eventually to establish 800 miles of HSR right-of-way, linking San Diego and Los Angeles with twin northern termini in San Francisco and Sacramento.
