The Skanska joint venture including Traylor Brothers, Inc. and J.F. Shea Construction has been awarded a $1.6 billion design-build contract by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA) to extend the Metro Purple Line.
Skanska USA Civil will garner roughly one-half of the contract value involved in extending the Purple Line, a rapid transit (heavy rail) operation.
The 3.9-mile extension of the Purple Line (formerly identified as the Westside Subway extension) includes train control and signals, communications, traction power supply and distribution, and fare collection systems. The project schedule requires substantial completion in June 2023.
Last April a similar Skanska/Traylor Brothers joint venture secured a $927.2 million contract from LACMTA for the LA Regional Connector Transit Project, streamlining light rail and heavy rail routings in the city's downtown.
