Utah Transit Authority says it will begin light rail service on the new Draper TRAX extension Aug. 18, adding 3.8 miles to metropolitan Salt Lake City's LRT network.
The extension will add three additional stations to the system beyond the current terminus at Sandy Civic Center in Sandy, Utah. About 2,200 additional riders are expected to be drawn to the TRAX system with the addition.
The Draper extension is the last of UTA's Frontlines 2015 light rail projects, with a cost of %2.51 billion, below the $2.85 budgeted for the program.
UTA is also pursuing the addition of a streetcar line in the Sugar House district, the first phase of which is scheduled to open late this year.
