Protran Technology has been selected to provide 14 Portable Shove Track Protection Systems to an undisclosed Class I railroad. The system includes 14 PT-501SM portable locomotive track detector units for determining limits of a shove zone and providing failsafe track worker coupling protection. Track-specific identifications allow the locomotive operator to be informed of individual track locations and limits within the shove zone.
“Protran Technology’s Portable Shove Track Protection System is the only wireless system that allows Class I’s, processing facilities, hump yards, etc., to easily and safely set up protection limits in minutes without expensive infrastructure and hardwiring costs,” the company said. “It communicates to the central office wirelessly, and gives a failsafe confirmation to the locomotive engineer when a shove zone limits has been reached as well as a warning when track workers are coupling and uncoupling railcars.”
Currently, Protran Technology has more than 3,500 wireless systems in operation throughout the U.S., Canada and overseas.
