Braking systems supplier Knorr-Bremse has signed an agreement to acquire Selectron Systems AG of Lyss, Switzerland, a supplier of train control technology. Through this acquisition, Knorr-Bremse said it is “expanding its portfolio to include components and solutions for the automation of rail vehicles.” The acquisition remains subject to approval by anti-trust authorities.

“For many years now, Selectron Systems AG and its more-than 100 employees have been successfully developing advanced solutions for the automation, networking, and control of rail vehicles,” Knorr-Bremse said. “State-of-the-art rail vehicles can only be realized with advanced control technology. Along with reliable and robust components at appropriate cost, enhanced safety standards are the decisive factor. The progressive rise in the volume of data exchanged by the various systems calls for higher data transmission bandwidths. As a respected specialist in this field, Selectron responds to these requirements with its versatile and flexible solutions.”

Selectron Systems AG will continue to offer its range of systems, products, and services in the marketplace “and will be strengthening and expanding this range through further innovations,” Knorr-Bremse said. “Its integration into the Knorr-Bremse Group will extend the available portfolio of services, thereby facilitating supplier management for vehicle manufacturers and operators. In addition, Selectron Systems AG will be able to utilize the worldwide Knorr-Bremse sales and service network to provide its customers with even better support at international level. Customers of both Knorr-Bremse and Selectron stand to benefit in the original equipment, operators, and aftermarket sectors alike.”
