Operation Lifesaver, Inc. (OLI) President Joyce Rose commented Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015, on the Feb. 3 collision in Valhalla, N.Y., involving an SUV and a Metro-North Railroad consist.

The "tragic collision of an SUV and a Metro-North commuter train highlights the critical need for all drivers to use caution at every highway-rail grade crossing," Rose said. "This incident illustrates all too well the devastating results that vehicle-train crashes at highway-rail grade crossings can have on families and communities throughout the United States.

"Every three hours in the U.S., a vehicle or a person is hit by a train, Rose continued. "The mission of Operation Lifesaver, Inc. is to educate motorists and pedestrians about the potential dangers that they face at all highway-rail intersections and along train tracks. Our nationwide safety campaign urges: "See Tracks? Think Train!"

"Our thoughts are with the families and the communities affected by this incident," she added.
