Ferromex “selected EMD to supply its new locomotives based on the demonstrated performance and fuel efficiency of the SD70Ace,” EMD said. The most recent locomotives will be placed into service by June 2015. Ferromex took delivery of 82 new SD70ACes in 2011 under two separate orders and 15 in 2006.
“We are proud to report the delivery of an additional 10 SD70ACe locomotives to Ferromex, a customer we greatly value,” said Progress Rail and EMD Vice President of Sales and Locomotive Service Operations Brian Edwards. “They will deliver the same high quality and exceptional results that Ferromex has enjoyed from the previously delivered fleets, via reliability performance and fuel efficiency. Our locomotive performance allows Ferromex to realize operational cost reductions that provide funding to continue committed investment in and strong support of Mexico’s infrastructure. We are excited to be a part of this transformation and look forward to supporting and growing our Ferromex relationship.”
"We are pleased to receive the first 10 EMD locomotives and add this equipment to our fleet of 97 SD70Aces,” said Ferromex CEO Rogelio Vélez. “EMD has helped us improve our fuel consumption, and their reliability has allowed us to operate more efficiently and effectively. We also appreciate EMD's efforts to strengthen our commercial relationship and look forward to further cost and efficiency improvements in the near future.”
EMD introduced the 4,300 traction horsepower SD70ACe in 2005 for freight applications in North America and worldwide. These locomotives also feature radial trucks, distributed power, and the EMD Q-cab for increased operator comfort and safety.
