To better serve its existing customers and continue to grow its customer base, Big Spring Rail Systems Inc. (BSR), a linehaul railroad that operates and maintains approximately 2.07 miles of rail line in Howard County, Tex., announced on May 11, a multi-million dollar expansion within the Big Spring McMahon Wrinkle Airpark.
The expansion, which is being accomplished by the cooperative efforts of the Big Spring Economic Development Corp., the City of Big Spring and BSR, will enhance the movement of rail traffic and increase service between BSR and Union Pacific Railroad by building additional infrastructure to support the rail growth that BSR continues to experience, the company said. Topeka, Kans.-based Bartlett & West is providing design, engineering and construction management services for the project.
The Airpark is located at the intersection of IH-20 and US Highway 87, the Ports-to Plains Trade Corridor, which is also undergoing a major expansion to a four lane divided truck relief route adjacent and with access to the Airpark. With the enhancements in road, rail and air traffic, the Airpark will be a major logistical hub for West Texas and provider for warehousing, oil field supplies, sand, pipe and other commodities that support the Permian Basin’s needs.
