GE and PT Kereta Api Indonesia (PT KAI) on Oct. 26, 2015 signed a Letter of Intent for a multi-year maintenance service agreement for 50 CC206 diesel-electric locomotives, the latest addition to PT KAI’s fleet of existing diesel-electric locomotives. GE has worked with PT KAI for more than 60 years, bringing 350 locomotives to the country, the company says.
Additionally, GE announced the signing of three power projects, which when combined with the locomotive maintenance project, values over $1 billion. Together the power projects will contribute an estimated 3 GW in capacity towards Indonesia’s plan to provide more than 35 GW of additional power by 2019, GE says. The signing of the four infrastructure projects took place in the presence of the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo during his visit to the United States.
Commenting on the projects, John Rice, GE’s Vice Chairman said, “We are pleased to play a role in developing Indonesia’s infrastructure by providing technology and capabilities to our customers who will bring much-needed power and transportation services to the Indonesian people.”
GE has been in Indonesia for 75 years and provides 20% of the country’s power generation capacity, the company says. “By providing fuel-efficient aircraft engines and locomotives, GE helps connect Indonesians across 17,000 islands.”
