The American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association has appointed Jo Strang as Vice President for Regulatory Affairs, effective July 1.

Strang, most recently with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, is best known to the rail industry for her earlier work as the Associate Administrator for Railroad Safety and Chief Safety Officer at the Federal Railroad Administration. At FRA, she oversaw the development and enforcement of many safety regulations and programs, and in 2009 received the Presidential Rank Award for her work. Strang holds a B.S. in Economics from the University of Cincinnati and an M.S. in Economics from Marquette University.

“I am delighted that Jo Strang is joining the ASLRRA team,” said ASLRRA President Rich Timmons. “Her knowledge and insight will be a great asset to the Association in its ongoing work to address the many regulatory issues facing the short line and regional railroad industry.” Strang will be based at ASLRRA’s Washington, D.C. headquarters.
