Montreal’s Agence Metropolitaine de Transport (AMT) on Dec. 17, 2015 launched an international call for tenders to acquire new commuter railcars and award a contract for operation and maintenance of its entire passenger rail fleet.

The call for tenders comes in the wake of Greater Montreal’s Bill 76 legislation, which changes the organization and governance of public transport in the region, transferring AMT’s rights and obligations to contracted organizations that will succeed it.

AMT plans to award the rolling stock contract in the summer of 2016 and receive the first railcar in the spring or summer of 2018. The agency said that it “is confident that the recently undertaken legislative process to change public transport governance in Greater Montreal will not affect the process for awarding this contract.”

AMT plans to award the operating and maintenance contract in the fall of 2016, “thus giving the new supplier an adequate mobilization period before it begins its service offering.” As with the rolling stock acquisition contract, AMT says that Bill 76 will not affect the contract award process.

Companies interested in bidding on these contracts should visit SEAO and MERX, which are the only means for them to obtain the call for tenders documents.
