Utah Transit Authority will begin test runs on the Sugar House streetcar line next week, the agency announced Wednesday, Aug, 28, 2013.
The 1.9-mile route is scheduled to begin revenue service in December. Service headways will be every 20 minutes. Initial daily ridership is expected to be 3,000, growing to 4,000 by 2030 – a figure streetcar advocates nationwide suggest is a very cautious projection.
UTA will employ Siemens Mobility S70 streetcars for the route, complementing its S70 light rail transit vehicles used for TRAX LRT service.
