In preparation for Metrolink passenger rail service on the expansion of the 91/Perris Valley Line (91/PVL), this weekend test trains will operate at higher speeds between Downtown Riverside and South Perris, the commuter rail service announced on Feb. 11, 2016. Metrolink trains began testing last fall along the corridor at slower speeds.

Testing of the Metrolink trains will replicate passenger service to finalize the upcoming 91/PVL schedule and occur at varying speeds up to 79 mph daily along the 24-mile railroad extension.

The train speeds and frequency will increase up to 79 mph beginning Saturday, Feb. 13 and continue until passenger service begins. Much of the testing is being done on weekends, however service tests trains will soon operate Monday through Friday, as well. BNSF freight trains will operate as currently scheduled.

During the train testing period and once service begins, residents and businesses in the community are reminded of the importance to abiding by rail safety rules. The only safe places to cross tracks are at designated public crossings. It is both dangerous and illegal to trespass on rail property.
