U.S. Rep. David Young (R-Iowa) joined National Railroad Construction & Maintenance Association (NRC) member Paxton & Vierling Steel Co. (PVS) for a tour of its metal service center and structural fabrication facilities in Carter Lake, Iowa.

Attendees included Rep. Young; Andy Swanson, Special Projects Coordinator for Rep. Young; Donna Kush, VP of Public Affairs – Northern Region, Union Pacific; Matt Splittgerber, Manager of Business Development, Iowa Interstate Railroad, Ltd.; Gerald Waltrip, Mayor of Carter Lake, Iowa; Ed Korbel, CFO, Owen Industries; Tyler Owen, Executive Vice President, PVS; Robert Jacobsen, General Manager of MVS Metals in Sioux City, Owen Industries; Keith Siebels, Vice President of Sales, PVS; Craig Bence, Manager of IT, Owen Industries; and Lindsey Collins, VP of Grassroots Advocacy at NRC.

Owen gave an overview of PVS and its operations. PVS is a division of Owen Industries; a family owned steel fabrication and steel service company. PVS is one of the top industrial fabricators in the United States, producing a variety of quality structural steel products for projects around the world, including a number of bridges for the rail network.

Owen gave a tour of the facility, which includes both PVS’s Metal Service Center and Structural Fabrication facilities. The company’s steel fabrication and metal processing operations employ 130 people on the 30-acre site, which includes a 500,000-square-foot fabrication facility. The facility is serviced by freight rail, providing access for transportation of completed products to project locations throughout North America.

“Today’s tour was valuable to see firsthand the operations and impact in Pottawattamie County and Iowa’s Third Congressional District,” said Young. “I appreciated this opportunity to learn more about the role these Iowa facilities play in the rail contracting and supply industry.”

Congressman David Young was elected to serve Iowa’s 3rd congressional district in 2014. David was appointed to serve on the influential House Appropriations Committee on which he is the only Member of the Iowa delegation, House and Senate. He has been assigned to the Agriculture, Homeland Security, and Transportation, Housing and Urban Development subcommittees, all of which have a direct impact on Iowans. Young previously served the people of Iowa as Chief of Staff to Senator Chuck Grassley from 2006 to 2013.
