A $10 million TIGER grant will allow SEPTA to add six miles of track capacity to its West Trenton Line, SEPTA spokesman Andrew Busch affirmed Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013.
The right-of-way, a major CSX thoroughfare that also handles SEPTA service linking Center City Philadelphia with West Trenton (Ewing), N.J., is facing capacity constraints.
"We're thrilled to get the funding. The entire project will cost $38 million and that will be divided up between SEPTA and CSX — just how much needs to be worked out," Busch told local media. "We will get whatever extra funding we need for the project out of our capital budget."
Federal Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) funds will essentially establish one track for SEPTA use, though some mixed use is likely.
