Recent track upgrades meeting or exceeding all applicable Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) standards will allow Union Pacific (UP) to increase train speed from 40 mph to 60 mph on approximately 7.5 miles of rail line between Bonanza Road and Maule Avenue in Clark County, the railroad announced March 18, 2016.
Train speeds will increase beginning March 21, 2016. UP invested $27.9 million for Las Vegas-area track improvements over the past two years.
Increased train speeds typically reduce motorist wait time at crossings and help UP more efficiently deliver the goods American businesses and families use daily, UP says.
