Toronto and Hamilton transport authority Metrolinx has purchased an additional 125 Bombardier double-deck coaches for the the Go Transit commuter rail network in a deal worth $C 428 million ($US 328 million).
Production will start at Bombardier’s Thunder Bay plant in Ontario in 2018 and deliveries will be completed in the first quarter of 2020.
The coaches feature upgraded door and air conditioning systems, and improved energy efficiency.
The order will support Go Transit’s overall service expansion plan to meet ridership growth as nearly 1.5 million Ontarians rely on the region’s subway, tram and commuter rail networks.
