HNTB has named Joseph Rago, PE, CEM, LEED as Senior Project Manager and Associate Vice President in the firm’s Northeast Division rail and transit practice. He will be based in HNTB’s Newark, N.J. office.
Most recently, Rago was Deputy Chief Engineer of Capital Construction for Amtrak, where he managed multiple programs valued at approximately $800 million across the Amtrak system.
“Joe’s extraordinary level of program management experience and technical knowledge of the Northeast Corridor rail infrastructure provides our clients with much-needed critical expertise as we work together to create rail systems that will support economic growth today and into the future,” said HNTB Northeast Division President Mike Sweeney, P.E.
At HNTB, Rago is involved in the pursuit and delivery of complex rail programs and projects across the northeast U.S.
A licensed engineer in New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey, Rago graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. He is a member of AREMA (American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association), ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) and ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, Air Conditioning Engineers), and was a contributing author of “Design of Diesel Ventilation Systems” for the ASHRAE systems handbook.
