A ceremony is set for Monday, Nov. 25, 2013 to officially open a new rail bridge spanning the Osage River in Missouri, which officials say "eliminates the last major bottleneck between St. Louis and Jefferson City."

Federal Railroad Administrator Joseph Szabo is slated to attend the event, to be held Osage City, Mo. Szabo will be joined by representatives from Missouri's Department of Transportation, Union Pacific, and Amtrak.

UP owns the right-of-way. In a statement Wednesday, Nov. 20, UP noted, "The new bridge significantly improves freight and passenger rail service in the state and across the country."

Amtrak operates two Missouri River Runner trains a day each way over the route, linking St. Louis and Kansas City, Mo.
