Los Angeles' Union Station main entrance closed for repair work on Monday, March 17, 2014, part of a larger effort by Metro to restore the historic station to a state of good repair.

The entrance is scheduled to reopen to customers on April 5. During closure, riders are urged to use the South Breezeway entrance, to the right of the main entrance upon approach.

According to website The Source, restoration work during 2014 also will include

Painting the station's exterior, restoring metal and woodwork throughout the station, restoring the passageway underneath train platforms, including painting and resurfacing floors and removing non-historic tile.

Los Angeles Union Station, which opened in May 1939, is used by Metro, Metrolink regional rail service, and Amtrak.
