Washington, D.C.-based radio station WTOP FM says the Silver Line could open for revenue service this July 4, according to sources contacted by the radio station.

The station noted the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority continues to run tests on the tracks. The Silver Line, formally called the Dulles Corridor Metrorail project, will link Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) Metrorail service with Dulles International Airport, among other new stations.

"Multiple sources tell WTOP that it's more likely that the Silver Line will be completed and certified before the end of the month than it being delayed into May. Once MWAA certifies the project as complete, it would turn over the project to Metro," the station said in a statement posted on its website Friday, April 4, 2014.

The Silver Line was scheduled to open last year, but has faced numerous delays. Last February Phase 1 construction and testing was completed, according to documents submitted by contractors.

lThe Silver Line rail extension, formally named the Dulles Corridor Metrorail project, is a two-phase construction effort intended to link Metrorail with Dulles International Airport. Phase 1 measures 11.6 miles. Phase 2 of the project, adding 11.5 miles, is expected to be completed in 2018.
