A multiple APTA Safety Gold Award recipient, GCRTA was one of the first rail transit systems to implement new technology with a roadway worker protection system in 2007, by adding technology to existing standard operating procedures. Early in 2014, the National Transportation Safety Board delivered two recommendations (R-13-39 and 40) to install redundant protection for track workers. “GCRTA went a step further in protecting their track workers by installing our advanced, real-time Protracker System,” Protran said. “The system not only gives advance warning to workers and train operators but will also give advance warning of dangers regarding mobile assets (hi-rail and maintenance-of-way equipment) and fixed assets (trespasser warning, rail neutral, catenary, and flood warning, etc.).”
GCRTS’s Protracker System is expected to be completed and in operation this year.
