Railway Age Editor-in-Chief William C. Vantuono appeared on the Sunday, Feb. 7, 2015 edition of “Eyewitness News Up Close with Diana Williams” on WABC-TV in New York to talk about the Feb. 3 Metro-North grade crossing collision in Valhalla, N.Y., in which six people lost their lives, including five on the train.
Vantuono appeared along with accident survivor Paul Fallon, who was in the first car of Metro-North train 659. Vantuono addressed passenger railcar safety standards and the highly unusual circumstances under which the third rail, on fire from the exploding gas tank of the SUV that was struck at the crossing, penetrated the floor of the railcar.
