To help build its reputation on a broader stage and deliver significant value to its member organizations and the customers they serve via new education and business services, the American Short Line Regional Railroad Association has hired two new team members, ASLRRA President Linda Bauer Darr announced on April 27, 2015.

Amy KrouseAmy Krouse (bottom photo) has joined ASLRRA as Director, Strategic Communications. In this role, she will be responsible for delivering the story of the short line industry to key constituents including transportation thought leaders, public policy forums, and the general public in support of ASLRRA’s legislative and regulatory goals. Krouse will also be tasked with strengthening an already substantial grassroots network for the short line industry via the state rail associations, and working with the Association of American Railroads to “support a pro-rail agenda while adding particular focus to the interests of the short lines,” ASLRRA said.

Krouse brings two decades of experience in brand and messaging development and deployment for a variety of consumer product companies, including Quaker Oats, Procter & Gamble and most recently for Rand McNally.

In addition, ASLRRA has hired Sabrina Waiss as Vice President, Education and Business Services, effective this May. Waiss will be responsible for working with the ASLRRA team to create a robust program of virtual and in-person education programs. Initial programs will focus on providing support to front line personnel, industry leaders, and railroad CEOs. She will also work with industry suppliers to “create bulk buying opportunities that will leverage the buying power of the more than 500 short line railroads that are members of ASLRRA, providing critical tools for railroads that want to stretch their buying dollar,” the association said.

Waiss has nearly twenty years of experience in marketing, communications, fundraising, and business and program development. Prior to joining ASLRRA, she served as Director of Marketing and Cause Partnerships for Goodwill Industries International, and most recently as Vice President of Marketing, Communications and Education at the American Moving & Storage Association under Linda Bauer Darr.
