Metro-North Railroad opened its new West Haven, Conn., station to revenue passengers on Sunday, Aug. 18. West Haven Station is located between Milford Station and New Haven on the railroad's New Haven Line.

The station was constructed and funded by the State of Connecticut, and includes two 1,100-foot platforms to accommodate 12-car consists. It offers covered waiting areas, bicycle racks, concession stand areas, and an Americans with Disabilities (ADA)-compliant station building with restrooms.

Two buildings comprise the station complex, Metro-North says. The main station building on the north side of the tracks houses the waiting area and an area for vendors, and has space for offices, restrooms, and various vending machines. The smaller structure has a staircase leading to the pedestrian overpass, which leads to the larger building.

Connecticut's Department of Transportation's Shore Line East trains extending west of New Haven to serve Stamford will also stop at West Haven Station.

The new station opens as Metro-North announced it has received 252 of its Kawasaki Rail Car M8 electric multiple-unit (EMU) fleet for use on the New Haven Line, up from 186 in January. M8 units now outnumber older M-2 EMUs, destined for retirement once the 380-car order is completed.
